Dr. Guy Massry is internationally recognized for his exceptional ability to revise poor results from previous eyelid surgery. Far too often, eyelid surgery results in lower lid retraction, which occurs when the lower lids get pulled down after surgery, and canthal webs. These results are disfiguring and can be functionally disabling. This issue is very hard to fix and Dr. Massry has found that for many patients it requires a different “surgical recipe,” depending on examination, to make the eyes appear normal again.

How do you fix pulled down lower lids and rounded eyes?

Below is a great example of how Dr. Massry is able to revise this problem for patients after having surgery by another doctor. In the before pictures on the left, you can see her rounded eyes, with white showing below the iris (lower lid retraction), and the rounded outer corner of the eye (canthal web). The pictures on the right are after revision surgery with Dr. Massry to restore a regular, almond-shaped eye shape and to normalize the lower eyelid height.

In this case, Dr. Massry addressed two issues:

1. The retracted or pulled down lower lids, which gives the patient a wide-eyed appearance. (Note: Her almond-shaped eyes are back after surgery.)

2. Even more difficult to correct is the web on the outer corner of the eye (lateral canthus). Dr Massry has published on this – here is a link to his paper.

As an expert in this procedure, Dr. Massry has written several publications on his technique. Here are two of them:
