When a patient has hollow upper eyelids, it makes the patient look older and tired. While this area can be treated with filler, in some cases surgical intervention is the best long-term option. Surgery for Hollow Upper Eyelids
To restore a youthful appearance for patients with hollow upper eyelids, Dr. Massry will perform an upper blepharoplasty with fat repositioning.
The nasal fat pad of the upper eyelid is dense, continuous and relatively rich with stem cells. These qualities make the nasal fat pad a good option for transposing from areas of excess fat to areas of deficit.
To perform upper eyelid fat repositioning, Dr. Massry begins with the regular upper blepharoplasty skin incision. Then he locates and divides the nasal and central orbicularis muscles and orbital septum so that he can access the nasal and central fat compartments. He releases the nasal fat from all of the connective tissue attachments so it is a freely mobile fat flap. The fat is then transposed over the areas of volume deficit, creating a smooth medial upper brow to upper lid transition.
