In the second video of his series Blepharoplasty 101, Dr. Guy Massry discusses aging eyelids.

One of the easiest ways to understand the aging process of the eyelids is to compare our faces and eyelids to grapes that turn into raisins. As we age, our skin doesn’t just sag, but we also lose volume. This loss of volume is why fillers and fat grafting have become so popular over the past few years.

When performing eyelid surgery for aging eyelids, Dr. Massry believes it is really important to look at photos of patients when they were younger to make sure he can restore not only their appearance but their volume too. So when you are preparing for a consultation with Dr. Massry, please pull out some photos from your memory box when you were younger to share with him.

Traditional blepharoplasty surgery has always been about subtraction (ie. taking tissue out). However, a full eyelid is more attractive than a hollow eyelid. So, Dr. Massry believes a better paradigm is to take out only what is necessary, and, more importantly,  leave what is critical to look and work great!
